ORC Week 5: The home stretch
I cannot believe it is already Week 5 of the One Room Challenge. We’re in the home stretch, a lot has been accomplished so far but I’ve still got to finish up quite a lot before Sunday which is when the final photo shoot for the reveal is planned. That’s only a couple of days away!
If you have not seen it on Instagram already, I am beyond happy to show you that the Ellie Cashman wallpaper is up and I am more than pleased with the results. It was not an easy job and last week was not an easy week. Thank God we had called in the professionals to hang the paper because after we removed the woodchip paper that had previously been covering the wall, they discovered an air bubble in the plaster. They had to remove all the existing plaster and replaster the whole wall. This was not a job we were up to doing ourselves. This added to the work time, of course, as they had to come back two days later after the wall was fully dry to actually hang the paper. At 7 pm last Friday evening the wallpaper was finally up. What a relief.
I snapped this picture just as the workers finished and before I ran out the door to meet up with friends on Friday night.
And this one I took the next morning when I could have a the first proper look at it in daylight.
In the midst of all the unexpected wall delays last week, I threw out my back. I’m still in a lot of pain so doing the final painting of the wall this week is going to be interesting.
And did I mention that our cat is sick? Our one-year-old feline baby, Magic, has been to the vet multiple times this week and gotten six injections so far. We’re crossing fingers that it’s just a virus or infection of some kind. This has not added to the ease of finishing off this project, but really, what would a room makeover be if not for some twists and turns and added drama?!
I will be re-taping the walls today to add a darker layer of black paint to the wall behind the bed. Now that the wallpaper is up I can clearly see that the darkest anthracite I used originally just is not going to cut it. So deepest black is coming up next.
A sleek dado rail is also in the works. If you saw my original inspiration images, like the one below, you might recall that I want to recreate a similar dado rail to separate the black and white paint on the wall. Let’s see if I can work some magic in the next couple days.
I have decided on a chair for my corner, so here is a little peak but I’m going to leave the full view for the final reveal 🙂
The only things that have not yet arrived are the table lamps for the nightstands. I’m very disappointed about this because I really loved them. They are from Danish brand House Doctor and I was only able to find then through a previously unknown (to me) internet supplier.
I am always very careful about using an unknown source and I went for it and ordered them only because I could pay with Paypal and knew that they would support me and refund my money if the products weren’t sent. The supplier has promised that the lamps would arrive by now but there are sadly no lamps in sight. I’ve ordered some back-up lamps from Amazon (in the pic below) Â in case they don’t make it before the weekend (or ever). Once the painting is done I Â will hang up wall sconces higher above the nightstands.
Here are a few more peaks at the details as things are coming together.
Don’t miss the big reveals of the One Room Challenge next week! Good luck to all the participants!

Thanks so much! As much as I love color, there is just something about black and white patterns that steal my heart every time!
