In Praise of Outdoor Rugs used Indoors
I love to use rugs to add warmth and visual interest to nearly every space, but I am very reluctant to put an expensive, delicate rug where my kids, pet or anything else could easily wreak havoc on it. That’s why I am a big fan of the indoor/outdoor rug. These super durable and relatively inexpensive floor coverings get my vote for the busiest and dirtiest spots in your home: the entry, the kitchen, under the dining table and your bathroom.

I found this Safaveih rug on West Wing Now a few years ago. It’s back in stock, you can find it here.
The number one reason to go with an outdoor rug is that they are so easy to clean. They can easily be wiped up with soap and water or even hosed down because they dry so quickly. But I’m not lying when I say that for the past two years I have never done more than vacuum and shake out the rug in my entryway. Granted it is a dark and forgiving color, but despite my children often coming in with muddy shoes, the vacuum always seems to be enough.

This rug is called Curacao from Bougari, available on West Wing Now.
When I did my kitchen makeover I really wanted to add a rug, but our floor is constantly dirty. I even questioned whether an outdoor rug was a good idea. I decided to go for it and found a very inexpensive runner on Wayfair. I’m so glad I did because I love the look it gives to the room. Indoor/outdoor rugs are made of synthetics to make them durable, but that also means they are much less expensive than a wool or other natural fiber rug. This takes the fear factor out of putting a rug down in the kitchen where there are bound to be spills. Amazingly my rug still looks brand new despite two small children and a cat, but even if disaster strikes and it only lasts a year or so, I won’t be devastated because it cost under 50 EUR.
I love neutrals in my home so you can see my collection of outdoor rugs here. You will recognize two of them from my entry and kitchen. And don’t forget that these rugs can be used outdoors as well! The one on the left is brand new and it will be used outdoors on my terrace when the weather warms up!
What’s great about their low price point is that you don’t have to make a huge commitment. If you’re currently loving a trend color or pattern, but not sure if you’ll love it for years to come, this is a an inexpensive way of making a statement.
Here are just a few great indoor/outdoor rugs I have found.

My favorite sources for indoor/outdoor rugs in Europe are West Wing Now, Wayfair and Le BonJour (which has a big collection of LIV Interior rugs).
Any great sources you can tell me about?
Have a wonderful day!
